The Eulogy
You were twisted and wicked, blind to what was gifted
The wrongs you committed resulted in your sickness
Lying in the casket is the man that I used to be
Now I'm standing here reading my own eulogy
You only loved yourself, you were blind and full of pride
You tried to own your life, that's why you had to die
Lying in the casket is the man that I used to be
Now I'm standing here reading my own eulogy
Abandoned by your father, molested by a neighbor
Abused by a stepdad, that started your behavior
Confusing hate with love, and love with hate
Lacking nurture, this became your nature
To prove your manhood, you started using women
And fighting men every chance you were given
You were defiant, thinking you were self-reliant
Seeking triumph through misguided violence
You never stood a chance, the world ate you alive
You never found peace, when you tried it was denied
I'm truly sorry that you had to live that life
But that's why you had to die
You were twisted and wicked, blind to what was gifted
The wrongs you committed resulted in your sickness
Lying in the casket is the man that I used to be
Now I'm standing here reading my own eulogy
You only loved yourself, you were blind and full of pride
You tried to own your life, that's why you had to die
Lying in the casket is the man that I used to be
Now I'm standing here reading my own eulogy
Since you passed on, I've been given peace
I found the type of love that you always seeked
A father who meets my needs because I believe
The pain's been relieved, I can finally breathe
I feel a joy in me, a sense of normalcy
Revival of the boy in me, a promise of his loyalty
He's holding on to me, his grace is restoring me
The king's rewarded me, adopted into royalty
I found a light in the darkness of night
The past is forgiven, his blood was the price
You died so I can live, thank you for that sacrifice
Your death was for my faith in Christ and eternal life
Your testimony is my story to share
Of a man that died and a life that was spared
Lying in the casket is the man that I used to be
Now we reach the end of the reading of the eulogy
I've been redeemed, my soul made clean
The past is but a memory on a faded movie screen
Lying in the casket is the man that I used to be
I close the lid, I've been set free
